lost screen shots, can't find partial screenshots

I often take partial screen shots. Screen shots are supposed to be saved to the desktop by default, and I have also directed them to a folder labeled screenshots, on the desktop.

But they don't show up.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.3

Use the default triple key combo ( Shift Command 5 ) and the default location >> Desktop

Why the screenshots I take don't get saved in the desktop rather I could only find it in the recent option from finder? Previously I was able to save a screenshot in the desktop but now a days ( recently ) for some reason the screenshots I take never gets saved and I can only find them in the recents option from finder.
