iPadOS, Mail app, send pictures

When I try to choose pictures as attachments to an e-mail the Photos browser don't show the most recent ones, only some very old ones. The Photos app shows all my pictures.

What can I do?

There are two ways to send photos/images in an email

First way.

You can go straight into the iOS/iPadOS Photos app, use/tap the Select option, in the upper right hand corner, then select thr photos/images you wish to email.

Then, in the lower left hand corner, tap the Share icon ( a square with an up arrow inside ) and look through the apps within the first line of the Share pop-up box, and tap onyour Mail app or third party mail app that you use.

The mail app should open with all your selected photos/images listed in the body of your email.

Fill in the mail recipient in the recipient line and provide a Subject title in the Subject line, and text to the main text area and then send the email.

Second way.

Open your email/Mail app.

Start a new email message

Tap in the body/main text area

Tap the Photos icon ( a rectangular icon with a sketched mountain and sun ( dot ) in the uppee left hand corner ).

Your photos/images should appear in a small browser

If you do not see all of your photos/images, if you tap the All Photos option in the upper right hand corner, a larger display area will appear showing all of your photos/images from recent to oldest order.

You can now select images this way ( one at a time ) OR tap between Photos and Album buttons at the upper top center of the display area and pick other photo/image albums to select images ( one at a time ) from.

Once you are done selecting photos/images, and they all appear in the main text area of the email, in the upper email info area, where it states the total file/data size of the photos/images you are trying to send, if you tap on this number, it will bring up options to send other smaller sizes of photos/images, you selected, that will decrease the file/data size of the photo/images you wish to send.

After you have chosen a photo/image size option, you can finish up creating the rest of the email and send it.

Hey there writergirl2,

Thanks for posting about this on the Apple Support Communities. We'd be glad to see what we can do to assist you with the issue you mentioned regarding the Media Browser and your photos.

When you have free time, check out the steps in the link below.

Get help with the Photos app on your Mac

Once you click and open the link, please read through and complete the steps in the section titled "If the Media Browser isn't showing your photos and videos."

Use the Media Browser to make images from your photo library available in other apps, like Pages and iMovie. The Media Browser shows only the contents of the Photos library designated as the System Photo Library. If you have more than one Photos library—and the one you're using isn't set as the System Photo Library—the Media Browser won't show its contents.

Follow these steps to designate the current library as the System Photo Library:

1) Choose Photos > Preferences.
2) Click the General button at the top of the Preferences window.
3) Click Use as System Photo Library.

The steps we suggested in the article above should help you troubleshoot the Media Browser issue that you mentioned on your Mac.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if the steps resolved your issue or if you need additional assistance.

Cheers!

I would NOT recommend any of these, without any known good and recent data backup.

And while we are discussing this topic to be able to assist further.

What is the rated, internal data storage space/capacity of your iPad model and how much of this free, internal data storage capacity is left inside of your iPad model?

All of that additional info can be found in the Settings app, General settings panel, About.

If you own a low storage 32 GBs iPad model that is running low on free, internal data storage ( less than 6 GBs and even less ), there are some things you can try first, but these may not help all that much with a low storage iOS/iPadOS device.

You need to free up free, internal data storage space on an iPad/iDevice, you need to start by backing up your iPad to either Apple's iCloud ( you may need to pay for additional, monthly storage space ) or by connecting your iDevice to a computer running the latest iTunes or, if a newer Mac with a much newer macOS, use the macOS Finder to do the device backup and/or some other offsite, “cloud” data storage/backup services, like Google Drive/Photos, BOX, DropBox, Amazon Cloud Drive, Flickr ( for photos/images ), etc.

Then, delete any installed apps that you no longer use or use infrequently enough that they aren't missed (you can always reinstalled any purchased or free apps at some time later, as you need them).

In addition, uninstall any games that appear to be using a sizable chunk of your iPad's internal storage, as well!

Then, thin out/delete any music/videos/movies/TV shows/podcasts/screen recordings/photos-images/eBooks/

eMagazine/iBooks/audio books/Documents/PDFs, etc.

If you use a POP email account on your iPad, delete/thin out any old saved emails that maybe saved to your iPad.

To permanently delete photos/images off of your iDevice go into the Photos app and find the Recently Deleted folder/album and permanently delete any photos/images stored in that folder/album.

Also, you can check to see what other stuff is eating up all your valuable data storage space by going into the Settings App,,General Settings Panel, in the right hand column, tap Storage & iCloud usage panel ( in iOS 11 and later, it’s now called iPad Storage ), in the top Storage Panel, tap the Manage Storage panel, wait for a list of apps to generate that will tell you how much space each app is taking up on your iDevice.

Then, for older iPad models with a Home button, do a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

OR

For much newer, larger screen iPad models, without a Home button, try the new hard reset procedure for the new 2018/2020 iPad Pro and iPad Air 4 models.

1. Press and release the volume UP button.

2. Then immediately press and release the Volume DOWN button.

3. Then, press and hold the sleep/wake/power button at the top. You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018 iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

ALL iOS/iPadOS devices need to maintain, at the very least, a minimum of between 3-6 GBs of free data storage space, AT ALL TIMES, to insure normal/nominal functionalities/operation and general overall performance of any iOS device running iOS/iPadOS.

If not all of this solves your iPad storage issues, your ONLY other option is to do a complete backup, erase and restore of your iPad model.

Hi MichelPM,

thanks for your support.

First way is the one which is not working for me.

Second way works fine, I just have to remember to start with the Photos App.

In the meantime I tested another option using the multitasking function.

I open the Mail app besides the Photos app and drag the wanted pictures from

Photos to Mail.

Best regards,

If you are having issues with the 1st method, try switching the view, in the sidebar column, to All Library view and/or back to the Recents view.

See what happens.

If still no joy.

For iPad models with a Home button, do a simple hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake/power button simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

OR

For much newer design iPad models, without a Home button, try the new simple hard reset procedure for the new 2018/2020/2021 iPad Pros, 2020 iPad Air 4 and 2021 iPad Mini 6 models.

1. Press and release the volume up button.

2. Then immediately press and release the volume down button.

3. Then, press and hold the single sleep/wake/power button You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018 iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.
