Cannot install Monterey

even though it has been downloaded many times and the mac is capable and has enough space.

" various ideas tried one idea was to download Big Sur 11.6.8 and do that first - cannot find where to download previous version software OS though

Suggestion is to check in Applications Folder for an application called " Install Monterey " and drag and Drop drop Trash.

The Empty the Trash.

What exact version of Big Sur is presently Installed and Operating on this computer right Now ?

UpGrading to Monterey with anything less that Big Sur 11.6.8 is risky and may or may not fail/

If Running Big Sur version ??.?? and wanting to update to current version of Big Sur 11.6.8 --->>

Terminal command below will Only Look for full installers this computer Qualifies to run

softwareupdate --list-full-installers

Should the Big Sur 11.6.8 appear from above, use the below command to Manually Download the Full Installer of Big Sur 11.6.8.

It does Not Auto Launch but places a New Application in Applications Folder called " Install Big Sur "

Launch it and follow the presented instructions

 softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 11.6.8

Once all the above is done - hopefully successfully - the computer is better positioned to attempt the upGrade to Monterey 12.5.1

Sorry but Copy and Paste below and spare the frustrations of typing. The smaller error in empty spaces or missing double -- and presto - square one and no go.

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 11.6.8

Signing off for a while a bit, but am sure my more learned colleague maybe around to assist - right @dialabrain 😀?

Many thanks for the response - I am on V11.6 - I have re-booted in Safe Mode and tried re-downloading Instal Monterey 12.5.1 many times but no joy (always deleted the old one)

I have tried the terminal command you mentioned and this gets me closer it does indeed list a version of Big Sur that I should be able to get - this is

Label: macOS Big Sur 11.6.8-20G730

Title: macOS Big Sur 11.6.8, Version: 11.6.8, Size: 2675026K, Recommended: YES, Action: restart,

Unfortunately I must be getting the syntax wrong since if I type

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer-version 11.6.8

It just drops me back to the normal prompt and shows al the help files for softwareupdate

I presume I am mis-typing something

Many thanks

I ave successfully downloaded 11.6.8 using the method I found as mentioned earlier via app store and I now have:-

Install macOS Big Sur

However even though I have deleted the 12.5.1 installer and emptied the bin it gives the old familiar message

This copy of the Install macOS Big Sur application is damaged, and can‘t be used to install macOS

I will try using the corrected syntax for the terminal method as you have pointed out - thanks for that
