Unable to add an additional email address to my mail account

I have followed all the steps exactly to add an email account on my ipad/iPhone but on the “verifying” screen i keep getting “No password provided for Att Mail” which is the name I gave it. It also says “go to mail account settings and enter a password” which is done and correct.

NOTE: I opened the Outlook.com site and was able to successfully add that email address AND get al the emails on it. I want to be able to click on the envelope icon shown on the main screen and see all my emails from all accounts.

That was a good step to go to the website and check to make sure your password was correct. And looking at the article you posted from, Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, that's a really good resource.


Is it possible you have something enabled that could be blocking it on your iPad, such as a VPN or security software? If so, can you disable it and test setting it up again? That would be found by going to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.


If you do not have either of these enabled, or you are still unable to add the email account, reach out to Apple Support by going to Get Support

Thank you very much for your detailed advise. I had already tried those steps, it made no sense at all. The resolution is as mysterious as the problem. After 3 days of constant attempts which included deleting addresses and reinstall them, deleting programs and reinstalling, etc, etc, etc I gave up. Last night on a lark I tried “add an account” as I have done about 50 times before, IT WORKED! I am very suspect as to why after all those identical attempts suddenly it worked? I believe in the tooth fairy but not programs that ‘heal’. Thanks again, Bob Smith
