My MacBook Pro (Monterery 12.4) became extremely sluggish, so I checked my Activity Monitor and discovered something called fileproviderd that appeared to be using more resources than just about everything else combined. I shut it down, but it reappeared. It's using less resources, but it's still at the top of the chart.
What is this thing, and how can I kill it permanently?

It is support for Finder integration of things like OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.
I’m not sure if iCloud uses it or not.
It is running on my Mac, but doing nothing. I don’t use any of those except iCloud Drive.
Yes, it's called Google Drive. I moved it to the trash, and that freed up a lot of memory. The strange thing is, the app is still there. It says I can't delete it because the program is open, but there's no way to close it.
I should have know better than to trust anything from Google. ;)
I don't know how to quit the app. It may have an item in the Status Menu area where you can Quit the app.
Or, restart holding down the Shift key to start up in Safe Mode. That should prevent it from working.
Interesting. I never use the cloud, so I was recently surprised when I started getting messages telling me my cloud storage is almost full. I wasn't even aware I was saving files to the cloud.
Also, I just recently installed some sort of Google Drive app. I wonder if that's the problem.
