How to stop upload of one file to iCloud

My internet connection is very bad these days (provider working to fix it) but I need to upload one 750 mb file (a compressed folder) to Google Drive for a client. How can I stop the automatic upload of the same file to iCloud?

The upload to GD would be a lot faster if I could just turn off iCloud upload of that same zip file.

And I don't want to turn it off in the settings because it says it'll remove everything stored on my Mac. (which is pretty illogical to begin with).

Thanks in advance!

You can drag and drop file to some other location Work with folders and files in iCloud Drive - Apple Support rather turning off iCloud Drive .
