Can I call my iPhone from my MacBook?

My husband has my iPhone, and I am trying to call him from my MacBook. I read that I should use my Apple ID to call my own number. So that I don't call myself, essentially. In the settings for "you can be reached at", I made it my phone number only. The call seems to be happening but I know my husband would pick up so I think there is an issue. Any thoughts? Thanks!
