it’s asking for my social security number, i put it and it still won’t let me do anything

Thanks for connecting with us here in Apple Support Communities. Are you attempting to apply for an Apple Card or set up Apple Pay? Neither Apple Pay or Apple Cash requires a SSN. If it was either of those, this would be a phishing attempt that's designed to gain access to your personal details. We'd suggest that you connect with your bank if you've provided any banking details. See: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

"How to add a card for Apple Pay on your iPhone

Add a new debit or credit card to the Wallet app, or add a card you previously used on a device associated with your Apple ID.

Add a new card on your iPhone

  1. In the Wallet app, tap the Add button the add button.
  2. Tap Debit or Credit Card.
  3. Tap Continue.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen to add a new card. If prompted, choose your bank or card issuer from the list or find them using the search bar.
  5. Verify your information with your bank or card issuer. They might ask you to provide additional information or to download an app before approving your card for use with Apple Pay.
  6. If you have a paired Apple Watch, you have the option to also add the card to your watch."

  3. Turn Apple Cash on.
