Can I block or limit Minecraft on a Macintosh?

Is it possible to block or limit how much time my child plays Minecraft on their Macintosh? I would like to have Minecraft installed, but its important to be able to set screen time limits on it.

I'm referring to the Bedrock edition, which is implemented in Java.

It would appear its not possible, since Mincecraft launches out of the "launcher" and is not visible to the Screen Time settings to control.

Another user offers this advice:

Workaround with AppleScript:

YOU NEED TO GIVE MINECRAFT PERMISSION TO CONTROL SYSTEM EVENTS AND ACCESSIBILITY PERMISSIONS FOR THIS TO WORK. (It should request System Events permissions, but you may have to manually grant accessibility permission.)

You also need to enable "keep in dock" for the Minecraft launcher if It is not enabled already.

  1. Save the text file called "minetime.txt" with no extension and make it executable
  2. set the java executable to the text file you make executable.

Nope, doesn't work for Minecraft. The Minecraft launcher is a Macintosh app that only runs for a few seconds. It hands off to Minecraft, which is a Java app that runs in the Java virtual machine and apparently can't be limited by the standard screen time controls.
