Mouse moving to second screen even though it's turned off

Hi everyone,

I have a mac mini M1 with a dual screen setup. I recently changed one of my monitors and I'm experiencing an issue with the mouse.

When the new monitor is turned off (it is most of the time), I'm still able to move the mouse to it, outside of my main monitor. It disappears into the second screen even though it's turned off. It's quite annoying since I didn't have this issue with my previous second monitor (a Benq).

It's as if the mac doesn't detect that the screen is turned off.

I searched online but didn't find someone experiencing the same issue. Is there a way to fix this ?

Thanks a lot for your reading

If it is still detected, it is not fully “off.” What happens when you physically disconnect the cable?

It may be in some sort of sleep mode. Sometimes pushing the power button puts it in a sleep state, not off. Do you need to hold the power button for several seconds to fully turn it off?

I don't know, maybe it is contingent on the way the monitor was attached to your mac.

It all comes down to how the mac senses the display as being "attached".

I have seen this behavior for decades (yes, I am old, the first mac with external displays I used perhaps in 1988 or so), with all sorts of different connectors, adapters and docks.
