Fitting a new battery to iphone 6s

My iphone 6s model number A1688 has a battery which is connected at the top (narrow edge) of the battery. The replacement battery I bought and all others I have found pictured on the internet have a connection which hangs at the side (long edge) of the battery.

Is my phone unusual? am I missing something obvious? any guidance appreciated.

Thank you

I really do not know much about non-Apple batteries. If you had Apple replace the battery, I’m guessing you would have better luck. Your iPhone is not unusual but it seems the other batteries are. Sorry. Here is Apple’s estimate on replacing the battery on your iPhone 5s:

But I must ask - why are you considering this? Your iPhone will no longer receive updates which means many of your apps will stop working.

Thank you Carol B for your reply. I was trying to save some money and I also like the feeling of fixing things myself rather than always having to rely on others. Its just the battery after all. It still cost £22!

I didn't realize I would no longer get updates if I didn't get a battery via Apple. Don't quite understand why Apple changing the battery would allow updates??

best wishes

The reason the phone will no longer get updates is not because of the battery. It's because Apple has stopped supporting the iPhone 6S. That model phone will not get iOS 16 when it's released later this fall. It will probably continue to be able to run most apps for another year or so but, once apps start required iOS 16 to run, you'll be out of luck.

Oh dear thats disappointing. What a waste of a perfectly good phone that will be.
Thanks for explaining.

The iPhone 6S was released eight years ago. Technology has moved on. The next version of iOS will require hardware features the 6S doesn't have.

That said, there is nothing to stop you from using an older phone as long as it does what you need it to do.
