Volume cannot be set to silent during video calls or streaming on iOS

This is a previews post from another user I am reopening as the solution did not work, but the explanation was spot on.

Using FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, and streaming VR. When lowering the volume it won’t go all the way down.

The little audio that can be heard causes a feedback loop in scenarios two devices or more (at least one being iOS) are in proximity to each other. It also prevents me from keeping my call silent to talk with someone in the room if there is noise on the other end.

While the microphone can be muted in app, the audio can’t.

Real examples when the problem

Sharing the content of a second device into a multiparty call. This was my scenario over the holiday, wanting to share a game from my Mac Pro into a multiparty call while having two iPads open alongside to spread the guests in tile view across the two iPads.

To be clear I was only trying to use audio and microphone from one device with the others muted, and volume turned completely down. It’s the small amount of audio that continues to leak from the turned down iOS device that causes the feedback.

Anyone solved this? The previews answer of going to settings and setting the ringer and alerts volume to silent does not solve the issue. It is not a ringer or tone, but the actual audio of the call. Likewise turning the volume to mute in the drop down list will not silence the volume.
