I have a (mid) 2012 macbook pro Catalina 10.15.7 Safarai 15.6.1. Am I understanding correctly that this mac will no longer be supported? Does this mean there will be no more security updates leaving my Mac vulnerable? Will Norton or such keep it safe? I just want to know if I can continue to use it for emails surfing banking and not be at risk

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Yes, no longer supported means all that.

As to Norton or any other hyped security app, you'll be better off just being careful while surfing and use good old common sense with respect to malware, phishing and malicious websites. Use the latest version of Firefox browser; it has updated security. So do other 3rd party browsers for that matter.

There is always risk in everything you do on the web. But common sense can go along way toward avoiding issues. Unfortunately, the bad guys are getting increasingly smarter. If it were me and I did sensitive online work, I'd never trust an obsolete computer with obsolete security. Basically it's your call.

There will be no more major OS updates, but that doesn't mean that Apple doesn't still provide incremental security updates. The last one was in July 2022. Some of the updates may be incremental (like possibly 10.15.8) or would just be a numbered security update.
