Sort or Randomize an Apple music playlist

For years and years Apple Itunes now Apple Music users have been asking for a way to sort a playlist in a random order not just shuffle. How hard is it for Apple to do this? Th old workaround was great but now when you shuffle the songs and see whats "Playing Next" it only shoes 20 songs at a time not the complete playlist. Why on earth did they change that feature and why wont they just add a sort or randomizer feature? So frustrating!!!!!!!!

You could try Doug's script that makes a new shuffled version of an existing list: https://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=mxnewshuffledplaylist. I couldn't find one that shuffles the list in place, but I could write one if you wish, at least for regular playlists.

With smart playlists you can add a Limit to X tracks selected by random rule. You can then use CMD+A > Delete to remove the current selection and the list will refresh in a new random order.

While the Playing Next list might only show about 20 up coming tracks if you watch it as one track completes you should find the list shifts up and a new random track is added to the end. When using shuffle play with no repeat Music should play randomly through all tracks shown in the current view that are checked and not marked as skip when shuffling, then stop.

Hi TominTexas97,

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

With your Apple Music playlists only playing a few select songs, quit the Music app and open it again. Restart your Mac, if you have not done so already and update macOS in Apple menu () > About This Mac.

If this continues, re-create the playlist. Restart computer in safe mode and play the affected playlists. Safe mode prevents certain software and login items from starting up while running a health check.

Regards.
