Spilled wine on MacBook keyboard

While eating dinner I accidentally knocked over my glass of wine onto my MacBook. The wine only got onto the keyboard and none of the side ports. I immediately shut it off and wiped the liquid off the keyboard and the surrounding area. Without knowing any better I then turned on the computer to see if it still worked. At the time all the keys, touchbar, and functions were just as normal. The only thing that didn’t work were the speakers. No matter what I wanted to play or the volume they were set to, no sound came through. So I know the speakers are gone. My real problem is that I have upcoming deadlines for university and I need my MacBook for them. Would turning it on again cause more damage?

Schedule time with an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Center for the next steps. The acidic wine has leaked through your keyboard to the motherboard and eventually, that will eat into the circuitry causing failure. Back up your MacBook now with Time Machine to protect your data.
