Factory Reset

My phone has been having continuing issues connecting to cellular data, updating, etc. I’m looking for information on how to factory reset my phone without losing data. I’m under the impression that I need to back up my data using Finder on my Mac, reset the phone, then reload the data on to my phone. Are there more steps and how exactly do I go about this? Thank you.
