Does watchOS9 must be upgraded based on iOS16?

Since my iphone has been upgraded to iOS15.7 this morning but I check my iwatch S7 and there was no new version upgrading request so far, also I tried to click 'new version upgrade check' and there was error occurred once checking......So I just concern that watchOS9 upgrading must depend on iOS 16?
