Software Update Failed Error for iOS 15.7 on iPhone 8

Thank you DeadRedPanda, I managed to upgrade my XS to 15.7, after having 10GB space free.

Well, for no specific reason, I tried to update again, and it worked. I didn't do anything differently and didn't delete any data beforehand.

I have the same problem on iphone XS (wifi or 4G)

On computer it offered 15.7 downloaded, but didn't update, and now only offering 16, not 15.7, and did not upgrade to 15.7

Stuck (cannot go to ios 16 yet, due to company policy)

I have the same issue on an iPhone SE 2nd gen., which I could not resolve, despite:

• I have restarted my phone several times. (Following a power off I’ve kept it off for 2 minutes at least)
• I have enough space available to finish the upgrade.
• I have tried to update using only cellular data. (Wifi + cellular fails the same way)
• I’ve been trying to proceed at different times during the day.

To my best understanding this is a server side issue, and it is truly sad that from iTunes I could only update to iOS 16!

This user ‘experience’ is far from what I’d consider ideal in case of an important security update.

Same for me, same issue with my iPhone 12. I tried all suggestions and hints mentioned in previous comments without success, more than 10 times to try to upgrade in past three days.

BTW, I also cannot install iOS15.7 using iTunes app on computer because as update option only offers iOS16.0

This is unbelievable, first time that happens to me since iPhone 3G, how is this possible? :-(

Same problem, same message trying on an iphone 12 mini. Tried with and without wifi/cellular. Have room for update. Turned phone off and on. Turned on and off VPN. I have fios 500mbs symetrical. Still Software Update Failed An error occurred downloading iOS 15.7.

This is a user-to-user forum, not a way to communicate with Apple. And millions of phones have updated to iOS 15.7 without problems, so there is nothing that Apple can do globally; the problem is with your phone or environment.

True dat, but seemed much longer than other updates in the past. But it only worked for me if i babysat it. I know it’s not conclusive, could be other factors (it was morning rather than evening, some apple engineer finally said “OK, enough already, I’ll let ‘m have it.’)

I’ve got the same problem. I have enough space. Tried to download and install on PC via itunes. It says it’s going to take 38 hours to download. Ridiculous! Shouldn’t be when it’s only three hundred some mb. What gives apple? No solution anywhere to be found.

To the people claiming you need approx 10+ GBs of free storage on your phone for the new iOS to successfully install...what about those of us who literally can't free up that much memory? My phone's only 25GB, I already transferred nearly all my photos and managed to successfully download the new iOS, which took up 5GB. I have 6.3GB of extra memory right now and literally nowhere to get more memory space from. I've been trying to install it for three hours now to no avail. I need to update my iPhone SE due to WhatsApp policies as they will stop supporting my current version of iOS. Am I seriously supposed to buy a new iPhone solely due to the fact that the update requires an ungodly amount of free memory storage, which isn't even listed anywhere?

i have been having the same problem for the last 2 days it keeps saying that there is a connection problem & my service is active & I have wifi & it still won’t let me download it I tried restarting my phone plenty of times & it still won’t let me download it

Same thing is happening to me, I have an XR aswell. It’s so annoying.

Same issue with my iPhone 11. Reset network settings, powered off/on, force restarted but still gets the error message.

What if my PC don't let me connect my iPhone and when I try to do it, ask me if I wanna reset and start as a new iPhone?
