Underline in text message

Why can’t the next iOS update include the capability to underline words in a text message.

Cannot Select Part of a Text Message with iPhone 14 Why has iPhone texting functionality gone backwards not allowing part of a text message to be copied?? Previous tutorials instructed to double tap a word and use bars to select a string of text. Or triple tap to select the entire paragraph. Now all you can do by tapping is get a menu that only allows the entire message to be copied, which is incredibly annoying. Am I missing something or this just another bizarre iOS regression?
