iTunes could not connect to this iPhone

Hi All,

I updated my iPhone Xs to iOS 16 yesterday and now iTunes 15.9.5.5 (in Mojave) "could not connect to this iPhone. Could not connect to device".

Any ideas how to fix this please?

Many thanks.

Many thanks, tt2

I did try, however the app didn't launch. Yesterday, when I connected the upgraded iPhone for the first time, I was automatically prompted to "software update is required to connect to iPhone", which I did. But it still wouldn't connect to iTunes...

I am happy using Mojave and I hope I won't have to upgrade to Monterey.

Thanks

Roberto

Hi, thanks for the advice. I did call Apple Support but, although very kind, they couldn't come up with an answer. I have connected my old iPhones 4, 5, and 6; my iPod, my iPad 2 without incurring any problem. Therefore the issue must be with the iOS16 on my iPhon Xs. However, when agreed to download the 'software required to connect the iPhone', it just doesn't happen: it says 'downloading' but the bar never proceeds.

But many thanks for replying anyway.

Best.

In Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

Hi, thanks for your reply and advice.

Yes, I did try to restart or shut down but without success.

The patch was downloaded and installed yesterday already but didn’t make a difference.

I was just wondering if an upgrade to the latest MacOS would help or perhaps there will be an iPhone update anytime time soon. Quite annoying as I can’t manage my music library.

Thanks.

Many thanks, tt2.

Called Apple support who, basically, guided me through the same steps you suggested. Sadly, to no avail. It’s annoying not being able to edit my iPhone Music library. Even using IMazing won’t help as, even if the phone connects, the music library appears to empty. I ll wait for a bit hoping to read of other users who have experienced the same problem. If not, looks like it’s time to say goodbye to Mojave and upgrade to a more recent OS.

Many thanks.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Just to keep you in the loop: I upgraded to Catalina and got that "This system does now allow downloading background update data". So the problem is not iOS16 itself but, it seems, the system, that fails to update the phone. The little MobileDeviceUpdater app is 'crossed' and won't open. I did another post on this, but got no replies so far.

Cheers.

Thanks, I did restart and waited for a while. Got the iPhone update with necessary software eventually. Sadly, Finder shows the iPhone on the side but nothing is loading as ‘iPhone has not been found’.

wait for 16.1 hoping it’ll sort this out. Else, I ll have to find a way of restoring the iPhone.

Many thanks for all your suggestions so far.

For what it's worth... another possible way to skin this cat:

Have a Mac Pro 5,1 Mid 2012, Mojave 10.14.6, updated to iOS 16.0 on iPhone SE 2022 T-Mobile had this same issue AND issues sending group SMS messages that were not going through. Was receiving the group SMS with no problem though. After a lot of tinkering around including a Network Reset I had no success. However, while on an airplane's wifi I noticed that my outgoing SMS messages started going through -no problem, this is because the phone was on 'Airplane Mode.' I came back home and noticed my outgoing group SMS were fine while on my wifi with 'Airplane Mode' on. I went back to my Mac Pro, launched iTunes and had no problems connecting the iPhone while on 'Airplane Mode.' I did do force restart after setting the 'Airplane Mode' just in case. Make sure the iPhone remains on 'Airplane Mode' afterwards. This may help some people out there. However, I hope Apple picks up on this issue, this behavior is obviously showing issues at multiple levels. I always wait a while before any updates come out but this one caught me by surprise because I didn't check before doing the update. Need to be more careful next time. Good luck out there!
