iOS 16 pasting to Apple TV

Since updating my iPhone to iOS 16 I am no longer able to paste text from my phone to Apple TV. Is this a known error? Is there a fix?

This is still an ongoing problem. I dont have any evidence to suggest it is (or is not) iOS 16 related, however.

Undesired behavior:

Pasting into the keyboard input on iOS (via prompt on iOS from ATV) does not appear as input in the ATV’s text input field.

Expected behavior:

The text field on the ATV should populate with the characters of the content that was pasted into the keyboard prompt on the networked iOS device.

Extra observations:

  • The pasted text does appear in the iOS field, but not in the ATV field.
  • Manually typed characters do populate in both.
  • Typing then pasting populates only the typed characters on the ATV while showing both on the iOS. This behavior is consistent with all sorts of cut/pasting/typing combinations including emojis or other languages.
  • Device-to-device pasting works as expected (iOS-MBP, iOS-iPad). Albeit, slower than I recall.
  • Doesn’t seem to be network related. Rather, it appears as if the pasted characters aren’t being registered as keystrokes by the iOS interface and therefore not sent to the ATV.

Hardware:

iPhone 13 (iOS 16.0) and A1842 Apple TV 4K (tvOS 15.6). ATV is connected to both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, though this issue does not appear to be network related.

Attempts to resolve:

❌ Restarted both devices

❌ Changed length of paste (1, 20, 50)

❌ Changed type of paste (plaintext, emoji, rich text, etc.)

❌ Changed the app that launched the keyboard (on ATV)

❌ Updated ATV to tvOS 16.0

❌ Disconnected iPhone as connected remote/device from ATV settings

⚠️ The feature behaves as expected when using MTFN2LL iPad Pro (iPadOS 15.6.1). Fully functional pastes.

⚠️ Expected behavior still occurs with iPad even after updating to iPadOS 15.7.

The evidence now suggests it is iOS related.

Since updating my iPhone to iOS 16 I am no longer able to paste text/ url links from my phone to Apple TV by my iPhone remote. which is pretty annoying , it makes me to manually type the words, than easily select, copy & paste the content from my iPhone's safari to my Apple TV ! Is this a known error? Is there a fix? it has been a useful feature , hope apple can fix it asap .
