Removing the MediaRemoteUI

My MediaRemoteUI is on my lock screen even when I am not playing any media. Is this a known bug or is there a way I can remove the MediaRemoteUI when it is not in use? What's the point in having wallpaper on your phone if half of it is covered by empty bubbles?

Restart the iPhone and try again, as it appears that some part of iOS has wedged or crashed.
