How can I find my old home screen background image to use for a custom Wallpaper in iOS 16

I took a photo with my iPhone 6s and have used it as my "Wallpaper" ever since, even when I upgraded to an iPhone 13 Pro. I recently updated to iOS 16 and can customize the Wallpaper. I want to use the same background image but I cannot find the original photo. How do I access the location where the "Wallpaper" photo is stored so that I might retrieve and use it again? Thanks.

If the photo was deleted, even if it remains as your home screen wallpaper, there is no place on your iPhone to retrieve the original image from.

In other words, a blank, you can customize it image is gone. Sorry, if you don't have this image stored somewhere, such as your computer or a backup service such as Amazon or Google Photos, you'll have to find a new image you want to customize.

I am sorry but it’s gone.

after you deleted it but it was still you wallpaper it was in a temp folder - so to speak - and accessible until you changed the wallpaper. Once you did that the temp folder - that was holding your wallpaper image - was replaced with the new wallpaper.

If you want that image back you’ll need to find somewhere else where it may be backed up or find a way to replace it.

This does not work. The image was deleted years ago but was retained as my home screen wallpaper. It is not in my images. The photo has to be somewhere on my phone but is not in my images. I'd like to find it so I can create a new customizable wallpaper. I'd love to be able to continue to use the image I have right now and make that a customizable wallpaper but it does not allow that option.
