Upgrading to Monterey 12.6
The upgrade to 12.6 freezes with 10 minutes remaining. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I suspect that is your issue. Full Stop.
Third party AntiVirus is not recommended— it typically does nothing but add issues to the macOS and competes directly with Apple’s own built in security:
Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN
all known to cause issues on the macOS
I would look for a in-app uninstaller ‚
If in doubt refer to the developers website; Support/Help/FAQ/known issues/compatibility/updates/uninstaller:
Contact a third party vendor

Uninstall AVG, like all antivirus apps they cause issues with MacOS and can mess up the system. Turning it off is not enough as there are all sorts of background tasks installed. Macs take care of themselves and don’t need antivirus or cleanup apps.
Thank you for your help to resolve the problem. I have uninstalled AVG and restarted the updater. It seems to be working.

Try running the installer from a SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
