Update to iOS 16 and Hide my mail

Updated to iOS 16 and Hide my mail is asking me to update my "Foward to" email address in "Hide my Email" settings to an email used in the Mail app. Currently, what's checked in the "Forward to: settings is my Apple ID email address with uses the @mac.com but in my Mail app, I forward and receive all my emails via @icloud.com. So when I select the latter and in the list of "Forward to" email addresses I get the following prompt message "Could not connect to iCloud-invalid email to share with developers-OK.

So it won't let me use Hide my email. Should I delete my @mac ID and update it with @icloud.com email? Will that screw up my apple online purchases, etc?
