Microphone seems to be disabled for speech to Text

Running iOS 16, When I press the microphone icon in the lower right to enter voice to text, or to enter a search, or to dictate in notes I get a small black tab with a Mic icon with a small X

indicating that the mic is off or disabled.

if I press the tab I get a small blue swirl in the text box.

The graphic that indicates sound being received is active leading me to believe the mic is hearing the input. But the speech to text is disabled for all of my apps.

microphone access is enabled for all most all of my apps.

anyone know to enable the microphone?

settings > privacy and security >microphone

all are turned on.

I’ve been in contact this Apple iPhone support.

their response after viewing my data logs is that it has something to die with the beta version of iOS 16.4 that I was running. Although I removed my profile File that was used to allow beta installation, and have installed the current public version of iOS 16, there may be some residual shared files that have note been over written.

I’m being told to back up my phone and reset it.

Cara the Apple tech has been super helpful.

we will attempt to reset and restore my phone next week. We will start with a fresh version of iOS 16. Then we will load one item at a time until we find the culprit. At least that’s the plan.

I’m interested to see that I’m not the only one with this issue. I will keep you informed about how the whole reset and restore goes.

Stevi you really should READ the message before you reply.

I am having the same problem. Is the help for this actual problem?
