Unable to view google maps in monterey 12.6 on safari
I just updated my Mac to monterey 12.6 and now when I view google maps I got the black screen below. Do you know how to fix that?

Okay, in another thread some are saying the following works. Safari->Preferences->Advanced->check “Show Develop menu in menu bar”. Now click on the Develop menu and select “Experimental features” scroll down to “WebGL via Metal” and uncheck it. Now try Google Maps again.

at the moment only in safe mode the problem is gone. let's wait for apples bugfix
The fact that Safe Mode works means it’s not an Apple problem but third party software. That’s what Safe Mode is all about. Safe Mode disables all third party extensions, add-ons and only allows Apple software to load. So if Safari 16 displays correctly in Safe Mode that means it could mean a Safari extension is the cause. Start by turning off any third part Safari extensions you may have installed and try again.

Anyone know when Apple plans to fix this 'WebGL via Metal' bug?
No one here is an Apple employee. We are just users like yourself, volunteers trying to help one another. We have no knowledge of when or even if Apple is going to do something. Apple does not monitor those forums either. The best thing we users can do is submit feedback about this issue.
As for the issue itself, WebGL is the current most popular framework for 2D and 3D graphics display. All modern browsers support it, including Safari. Metal is Apple’s own framework for the same thing and Apple has been trying to promote it. WebGL via Metal is an experimental setting in which WebGL is processed though Apple’s Metal framework. Unchecking that setting merely takes Metal out of the picture. This should cause no problems for users.
for what its worth, using another browser besides safari works fine but it still is a nuisance.
Could that be the issue? Only the Macbook 15" 2015?
I have this same issue on my 2015 5" retina with just the intel graphics.
My MBP 13" 2015 and iMac 2020 run fine. All have Monterey, and safari v16.
Similar problem in windy.com
thanks Ikrupp ... works in safe mode. No third party Safari extensions , in normal doesn't work... I have the feeling nikmik is right (apple bug fix)
I have a dual GPU Mid-2015 MacBook Pro 15". The issue only happens to the Safari but not the Chrome browser installed on this MBP. It clearly is a Safari issue, not a GPU issue.
Totally the same. What's wrong with that?
yes ... it is a nuisance ... has any one found a solution ? I'm using MacBook pro 2015...
Mine works with windy … I’m in Germany, don’t know if that makes any difference.
i'm running late 2014 mac mini with intel iris 1536 MB and having the same issue
Well, the funny thing is Google Maps works just fine for me and I have done nothing. I wonder are those with the issue running Intel Macs or M1 Macs?
I'm using MBP Mid 2015 so the browser issue might have something to do with intel based MBP
