Returning a lost AirTag.

I can’t find any information on the AirTag and it keeps saying, “connected to owner”. How do I locate the owner?

Find owner of airtag Hi I found an AirTag at the beach. I didn’t know what it was at the time so I brought it home. I looked up what it was and found that you can Identify found item in Find My. Unfortunately I receive the message Could Not Find Items An unknown error occurred. Please try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists contact the manufacturer. My phone is asking to connect to the AirTag to register it so I know it still has battery life but I cannot find out who it belongs to or if they have left a message in lost mode so I can return it to them
