May have found resolve but haven’t tried yet. Restrictions was turned on. Wasn’t on before, guess it got a wild hair.

  • Step 1: In the “Settings”, open “Screen Time”.
  • Step 2: Turn on Screen Time if it’s already turned on then Locate “Content & Privacy Restrictions”.
  • Step 3: Enter the required password if asked your iPhone.
  • Step 4: Scroll and find “Allowed Apps” > “Enable CarPlay“.

See I have never had to connect via the usb with Ford Sync. Within the last week though the phone is no longer recognizeable to the SYNC system in my Ford. I have master reset, restarted my phone, removed the devices and tried readding them, you name it I've tried it. I also told my phone to "forget" Sync and now I have spent the last 3 hours trying to find it again. My phone will not register the car and the car will not register my phone. The last week it was finnicky, I would have to go to bluetooth devices on my phone and connect it as anytime I tried to connect from the car it said device not found. If I connected it that way it would only work for music, it would not allow me to use the phone like usual. It usually connects on its own but it has totally stopped connected at all the last 2 days. I don't know if it's a ford issue or an apple issue or both but I'm running out of troubleshooting options......

I’ve got the same issue.

Te worst thing here is, once you try to connect the iphone, the onboard computer starts crashing and every single process is slow and even disable the GPS from Sync. It also disables (or make a significative underperformance) the voice control.

In my case I’ve tried all the measures you proposed, and even tried another Iphone obtaining the same result.

Even with a different cable and cleaning the input ports of both devices

I had the same issue. Thanks to Bluezkat for the answer that helped me. I have used my iphone 11 with sync3 on my 2020 Escape with no issues until IOS16. It worked sometimes if I plugged it into the other USB port. And then it wouldn't work. Each time it worked again, I had to click through adding a new CarPlay device. I also found that car play worked better (but not every time) if I set up car play to be USB only.

The problem in the end wasn't CarPlay. It was that Sync would not connect to the bluetooth pairing for the iphone. I deduced this by turning off Bluetooth on my phone. Carplay NEVER worked without bluetooth on, even when it was set for USB only. Something about IOS 16 caused the bluetooth pairing to stop working. Furthermore, when I re-paired the bluetooth, it would work only until I turned off the car. INFURIATING. I changed the name of my phone, and now everything works the way it is supposed to.

I am having issues with the ipad on 16.6.1 . It's connected to the sync 3 on my Ford truck. While playing video, such as Youtube, plays fine, however, the sync is showing this connection as a phone call and the call timer is counting up. If I hit pause by touching the screen or space bar on the keypad, the video will stop for a few seconds but start playing again without any touch from me. I have had this setup for several years and have never had this problem, only until the ios 16 upgrade. Its so annoying that it keeps auto-connecting. I have searched settings, I found one that says "connect automatically" unselected, but no resolve.
