My Iphone software is up to date! My phone is an Iphone 6s running IOS 15.7 My watch is Model A1978 MU6C2LL/A running Version 8.7 (19U66)

I have restarted both devices and still have the same error

Trouble Updating Apple Watch 6 OS (os8.8.1) with iPhone 7S (iOS 15.8) I have an Apple Watch Series 6 running watchOS 8.8.1 and an iPhone 7S running iOS 15.8 (that is as high as the 7S will go - it cannot run iOS 16 or higher). When I try to update the apple watch from the iPhone app, it tells me to update my iPhone software, but the iOS is already as up-to-date as it can be. When I try to update the apple watch from the watch itself, I get the following error: Unable to Check for Update - an error occurred while checking for software update. (cancel/try again). I am connected to WiFi, the watch has more than sufficient battery charge, and I've already tried unpairing & re-pairing the watch. How can I solve this issue?

Apple Watch Update issues. I am trying to update my Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch 7 to the latest version. When I do it through my iPhone, I get a message that I need update my phone, but it is already updated to the latest version (and only available version) which is IOS 16.7.2. When I try to update just through my watch, I get the message "Unable to check for Update - An error occurred while checking for a software update". I have unpaired and paired both watches multiple times, but nothing has worked. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, that is what I was guessing. I am ordering a IPhone 14 Pro and I hope my watch isn't to old to take any updates as well :)

To update to WatchOS9 you require a phone that's running ios16 which is an iphone 8 or higher.

And a series 4 watch is good for WatchOS9.
