distorted audio from headphone jack.

I have a 2020 13inch Macbook Pro with the M1 chip. All of the sudden the sound out of my headphone jack is distorted. I work in the audio field so I know my volume settings are fine and this occurs on all apps that produce audio. So far I have rebooted in safe mode and still had the issue, created a new user account and still had the issue, and reinstalled Mac OS 12.6 and still had the issue. I am almost to the point of thinking this is a hardware issue, unless I am missing something. Any thoughts?

Hi gracemusic,

Thank you for post to Apple Support Communities.

That's great isolation and troubleshooting you've done already. Our other suggestions at this point would be to try multiple headsets. That way you can isolate the issue to the Mac.

If it's isolated to the Mac, you can run Apple Diagnostics to see if there is a hardware issue detected: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac

If you're still having an issue, we recommend contacting your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store. You can find them at this link: Mac Repair & Service

You can also contact Apple Support for assistance in setting up service: Contact Apple Support

Take care.

Thank you for the suggestion. I had already tried several headphones with it and all have the same issues. I used a usb-c headphone adapter on the machine it is fine. I just ran the diagnostics as you suggested and it showed no issues. That pretty much leaves me with a bad headphone jack. I am off to the genius bar this afternoon! I appreciate the help.
