Blocked contacts freezes iPhone

This I question has been asked so many times with no straightforward and problem solving answer. Since the day I got my XR I haven’t been able to access the blocked contacts in my settings without it totally freezing my phone where I have to either attempt to exit all windows or restart my phone.

This needs to be fixed. Even with iOS 16 Apple has not corrected this very problematic issue.

I have reset my phone to factory settings, I’ve shut my phone down and nothing has corrected this problem.

Can the many of us who have this problem please get a fix for this or a solution that actually works please.

Hi TLM_1978,

It sounds like your iPhone stops responding when you tap Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts. Is that right? We'd like to check a few things to see if we can help.

You mentioned restoring your device. To make sure we're on the same page, did you restore a backup after, or set it up entirely as new? This would make a difference in how best to proceed.

To narrow this down, test Settings > Messages > Blocked Contacts if you haven't already. Do you get the same result?

To look at another possibility, we recommend checking to see if you might've installed call filtering software. Try the path below: Detect and block spam phone calls - Apple Support

"Set up an app to filter and detect spam calls

  1. Go to the App Store and download an app that detects and blocks spam phone calls. You can download and install multiple apps with this feature from different app developers.
  2. Go to Settings > Phone.
  3. Tap Call Blocking & Identification.
  4. Under Allow These Apps To Block Calls And Provide Caller ID, turn the app on or off. You can also reorder the apps based on priority. Just tap Edit and then drag the apps in the order you want them."

Keep us posted on what you find, and the answers to the questions above. Have a good one.

I dont believe i did the restore from new as I didn’t want to lose any of my information/contacts etc.

When I went into messages as you suggested to view blocked contacts it did the exact same thing. It froze.

I also took your suggestion and attempted to see if there was an app downloaded to detect spam and nothing came up.

Is my last resort to completely wipe the phone and restart all over again? I’ve got so much info on it I would hate to lose it all without being able to restore from backup.

Any other suggestions? I know I’m not the only iPhone XR user to have this issue. Seems to me like it might be a glitch with this phone entirely and not us, the users?
