Help! Lost AAE files 😢

How can i recover my lost AAE files? I recently transferred old pictures to an external drive and now some of the old photos turned onto AAE files and arent showing anymore

Hello KingToocho,


It sounds as though you've transferred photos to an external hard drive, and no longer see the edited versions of those photos on the external. To confirm, do you have those photos stored on another device such as the originating device, Photos on Mac, or iCloud? If so, you may be able to save those photos and transfer the edited photos to the external.


If the photos aren't on the originating device, it's possible that they may be in the Recently Deleted folder. There are steps that can help recover those photos which are listed below, and can be found in the following article.


"On your iPhone or iPad"

  1. "In iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, or later, use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock your Recently Deleted album.
  2. Tap a photo or video, then tap Recover. To recover multiple photos, tap Select, select your photos or videos, then tap Recover.
  3. Confirm that you want to recover the photos or videos."


If you're missing photos or videos in the Photos app
