How do I delete a Playlist Folder in Apple Music on iOS?

(Reposting old post sinc problem has No solution yet!)

My whole iTunes library syncing got messed up after I plugged my phone into a co-worker's computer to charge it, and I ended up having to redo my iTunes library on my computer. Now that I have, I'm trying to reset the music app on my phone to sync the music from my Mac. I can sync music, playlists, and playlist folders from my computer no problem, but the playlist folders from the OLD library are all still there, even though I was able to clear out the old playlists themselves.

Is there a way to delete the playlist FOLDERS from the Apple Music app directly? Because otherwise I'll have duplicate folders of each, and I'll have to keep tapping to figure out which one has the actual playlists and music, and which ones are empty. I don't see any options on the folder screens except the back button to view all Playlists, the Sort button (which just changes the order), the folders themselves (and no, swiping doesn't provide any options), and of course the menu bar at the bottom (which again doesn't not provide any relevant options).

why does longpressing the folder give no options?

Thanks for trying that and getting back to us, Fixar Frazze. It’s appreciated.

Let see if signing out of your Apple ID removes the folder. Go to Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases. Tap Sign Out, provide your Apple ID password if needed and complete the process. Once you’re signed out, Restart your iPhone. Once your iPhone is back to the Home screen, return to Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases and sign in again.

Once you’re signed in, check the Music app and see if the folder’s been removed.

Greetings Fixar Frazze,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. You can delete the old playlist folders from the Music app on the Mac. Open the Music app, and open an old playlist. Click the three dots to the right and click "Delete From Library". Once you've done that will all of the old playlists, sync the iPhone to the Mac using the Apple Support article guidance: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support

"Sync or remove content using iTunes

  1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Click the device icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. Learn what to do if you don't see the icon
  3. From the list under Settings on the left side of the iTunes window, click the type of content that you want to sync or remove.* To turn syncing on for a content type, select the checkbox next to Sync.
  4. Select the checkbox next to each item that you want to sync.
  5. Click the Apply button in the lower-right corner of the window. If syncing doesn't start automatically, click the Sync button."

Let us know the outcome, and we can go from there if needed.

Best regards!

Thanks for your effort. However that doesn’t work. I first cleared my library by makeing a new empty Music library on the Mac. Syncing that empty library to the phone did not remove the playlists so I had to manually remove them on the phone. But the playlist folders are impossible to remove by syncing.

after clearing the iPhone on all songs and playlists (but not the folders) I reopend the old Music.App Library and started syncing. All the songs are back and now I have duplicate playlist-folders, one empty and one filled with the correct music/playlists. But it seems impossible to remove the old and empty playlists-folders.
