Installation failed can't install the software - A software update is required to connect to [iPhone]

Does anyone know the answer to this issue? The required software update process downloads up to a point and gives the "Installation failed can't install the software" message. MacOS Monterrey 12.6, iPhone 12 Pro using one or two versions before 16. Ruled out MacOS software updates, using original apple cable, tried both USB ports on the Mac, forced restart the iPhone, stopping just shy of going for third party software, since this is Apple: I expect there to be a solution for this as soon as someone figures out what the problem is... Thank you!

Resolution (actually • more of a workaround) posted here:

"Your iPhone needs to update software to connect to your Mac" - Apple Community

tl;dr if you had Xcode installed, drag its app icon to the Trash. Download Xcode again from the App Store and launch it. Fixed.

If you did not have Xcode installed, download the app and launch it, after which you can probably uninstall it if you don't need it — just drag its app icon to the Trash.

Launching the app "installs additional components" which seems to accomplish the fix required.

  • "Workaround" because it shouldn't be necessary to go through the machinations of installing what ought to be an unrelated app. I imagine Apple will eventually come up with a more straightforward fix.

Hey Andres HY,

Did you already tried installing the update using the wireless method through your iPhone Settings page? If yes, did you get the same error? If not, what error did you receive? Do you have any VPNs installed on your iPhone or your Mac?

If you haven't yet, try these steps as well below:

1. Go to Settings > General > [Device name] Storage.
2. Find the update in the list of apps.
3. Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest update.

You can find some additional steps from this article: If your iPhone or iPad won't update

Let us know if these steps were helpful.

Cheers!

Agree with one of the previous posting regarding the Issue at hand.

Much like the release of iOS 15 early days - this " Device Support Update " prompt and in this case related iOS 16 is not working as intended - right now.

If it continues - suggest ---- >>> Get Support Choose a product and we’ll find you the best solution.Start now and open an Apple Support Ticket.

The more who report the issue the quicker Apple will have to actually deal with the problem.
