Increase Storage Space

I have been wanting to transfer my photos library to a backup disc in order to regain storage space on my MacBook Pro. I found "Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac". Part of the instruction cautions "You can't store your library on a storage device used for Time Machine backups." Can someone explain why? If the Photos library is in a newly created folder separate from the Backups folder, will this solve the problem? Thanks for your assistance.

Hi

No

The permissions structure used for a time machine backup is incompatible with a photos library. You need a separate drive or volume.

(You can create two volumes (partiitions in windows speak) on a single drive, and use one of them for time machine and the other for photos)

Personally I'd bite the bullet and just buy a separate drive for the photos lirbary. make sure it is much bigger than your current libray to allow for growth over many years.
