Recurrent issues with Macbook Air M1 (late 2020)

I want to share my recent reliability issues with the Macbook Air M1 (late 2020):

  • purchased in Nov 2021
  • rarely used it until June 2022 and thereafter used it an average of 3-5 hours a day
  • Aug 2022 I unintentionally let the battery drain to 0% and didn't plug it in quickly enough after which my MacBook refused to charge and then wouldn't power on at all.
  • I went to the Apple store and was told the logic board needed to be replaced. It was replaced 2 weeks ago and started working again.
  • Today I unintentionally let the battery drain to 0% again. I plugged it in to charge and when I tried to log in, the password did not work and the question mark logo at the log in screen was nonexistent.
  • The only way I was able to fix the issue was thanks to user vinoragav27's response to the apple forum question "MacBook Pro won't accept password to unlock after macOS Monterey update" but it took my laptop about an hour to reboot.
  • I am really disappointed in how unreliable my MacBook is becoming and I'm not used to this as my previous MacBook Air from 2012 never had any issues and I used it for 10 years before voluntarily retiring it.
  • I am now relying more on my Lenovo laptop for work since who knows when my MacBook is going to poop out again suddenly as it is now becoming a regular issue.
  • It seems like when the battery gets to 0%, it triggers a new issue in this MacBook.
  • I am thinking about trading it in for the newer M2 MacBook Air because of how untrustworthy the M1 is becoming.

Welcome to the new Apple. Thinking Differently.

I haven't worked on enough Apple Silicon Macs to see what types of quirks they may have, but I do know the 2016+ Intel Macs have a lot of quirks that I assume are the new "normal".

Edit: I should add that my 2020 M1 MBPro has had some issues powering back on sometimes. Thought for sure it may have needed repair, but so far it hasn't. It does make me nervous.
