Siri music recognition not working since iOS 16 update

Is anyone else experiencing this issue where music recognition no longer works with the update to iOS 16? This is on an iPhone 11 Pro Max. Siri listens for the song but then says "I can't recognize music right now. Please try again later". I've been "trying again later" for the past 3 days now and it's still not working. I downloaded the Shazam app and it works fine. So it must be a Siri issue since Siri also uses Shazam as its search engine but is unable to find music. I've tried every reset/reinstall option suggested in either Apple's forums or from Google searches to no avail. If this is a known issue, I sure wish Apple would say that it is and that they're working on fixing it. Anyone else out there noticing this issue with their phones?

Ok, after updating to iOS 16.1, this issue seems to have been fixed for me. Siri is now recognizing songs one after the other. Please try updating your devices and check.

Hi DaveyK,

If you haven't done so yet, restart your iPhone. Sometimes this simple step can correct unexpected issues. It's also a good idea to test while connected to a different network to help isolate the issue.

If the issue persists, reach out to Apple Support for further assistance. They can be contacted here: Get Support, or by calling the most applicable phone number from this list: Contact Apple for support and service.

Best regards.

I’ve been having the same issues with my iPhone 13 Pro Max, ever since updating to iOS 16 and subsequent updates, including iOS 16.02 the issues are still there.

I do hope that Apple takes care of this issue in the next update.

I don’t use this feature often, but as of today, I tried it many times, what was strange about it is that it worked once, and then stopped working completely, I tried resetting Siri I’ve tried rebooting. I’ve tried a hard reset, and also checking if the service was down and still no music recognition, for me optimistically I tried to look at it as, we’re still on a new operating system that just came out so hopefully with a updated iOS shortly, it’ll be taken care of.

I appreciate everybody’s input on this and knowing that I’m not alone, but I wish that we weren’t having these issues.

But it happens, things just need to get ironed out.

Thanks for the info!

Hi Ken,

Thanks for adding the story of your issue to the pile. All of us here continue to hope that Apple will at some point take notice that this is happening and do whatever needed in order to resolve the problem.

Absolutely agree with you that things like this happen from time to time. In the end, all we can do is be patient and wait until the next iOS update.

Hi Kevin,

Sorry that you and your wife are also experiencing this annoyance. Unfortunately, I've not seen any indication from Apple that they have acknowledged this problem on their end. If by chance you have any other friends or relatives experiencing this problem, please ask them to log into this forum and add their story to the mix. It's going to take people continuously complaining so that the folks who monitor these forums can bring it to the attention of the iOS programing team at Apple.

Thanks again for adding your two cents to the mix...and welcome to the group!

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping that (though it's not listed as one of the fixes addressed) the update for iOS 16 that was just released (iOS 16.0.2) may somehow shake this particular bug out of my wife's phone. Thanks again for replying. As with most things these days, you have to keep pushing the issue by continually responding in these forums until someone with some authority to do something sees it and adds it to the list of things to fix. Sort of the "squeaky wheel always gets the grease" approach to problem solving.

Thanks for sharing your experience markneri. Seems like you have a unique situation whereby restarting your phone allows one recognition attempt before failing. And thanks for the alert about the new iOS update. I'll install it today to see if by chance it resolves the issue on my wife's phone (but since it's not listed as one of the "bug" fixes, I'm not going to hold my breath).

I am the exact same. It is very frustrating that this is happening. I also noticed that prior to the update when asking siri what song is this and it found the song it would go to apple music and i could save to playlist. now it is more frustrating that it goes to shazam which i dont use. As I have apple music and do not want to have to have to go to 2 places. Can we just have siri when we ask "what song this is" and finds the song go to apple music instead of Shazam as well.
