Should I turn motion and fitness off?

Hi, so I just upgraded to the 14 pro max and Apple Watch 8. I’m an avid walker so counting my steps is a big thing. I was just wondering something. I’ve turned motion & fitness off on the phone because I don’t want my phone to count the steps if I’m lying down or my watch is on charge as I’ve heard on these forums steps to up by moving the arm and I’ve seen it do that on my arm. I want my watch to be the only thing that tracks my steps, my watch is still sending all the data of the the steps I’m doing to my activity so it shouldn’t matter to keep fitness & motion off should it? Thanks for any feedback I hope this makes sense.

Hello lucytruelove,

It sounds like you're wanting to turn off Fitness Tracking on your iPhone and have fitness/health data only from your Apple Watch, right?

You can do that by going to Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness and toggle off Fitness Tracking.

Doing that will move the tracking to the Apple Watch only. For more information check out this helpful article: Track daily activity in Fitness on iPhone - Apple Support
