Workout routes not showing in 9.2 (Race Route)

In WatchOS 9.2 I’m not seeing routes in the Workout app. When I go to the start of my route, select Outdoor Run and filter on Routes, there are no options. I run the same route all the time and it shows up in Fitness on my iPhone so I know the watch and/or phone is recording the route.

I thought it might have something to do with my route not being along a public road. So I just tested by running the same half mile twice on a sidewalk next to a road known to Maps. It measured the 0.5 miles the same within a stride or two so that tells me the GPS reading is consistent. Still when I went back to the start of the route it did not show up in Workouts.

That solved it for me. I thought I had already updated but the update was stuck. I had to restart, delete the update file, and trigger the 9.2 update again. When the update finally completed (it took a few tries) I checked my watch and the route was there.

I guess the routes are stored on the paired phone and iOS 9.2 is needed so the watch can access them.

I was having this same issue and then noticed that my iPhone was still on iOS 16.1.2. I forced the update to 16.2 and then turned my watch off and then on again. My first race route (which I have run three times since updating my watch to 9.2, including earlier today) appeared about a minute later. Not sure if the iPhone updating to 16.2 or restarting my watch (or both, or neither) was what actually fixed the issue.

Hey HungryAndFoolish,

If you haven't already, make sure your Apple Watch and paired iPhone are fully updated as that can help by installing bug fixes and important security updates:

Sorry to hear race routes are still not appearing for some. I have one additional observation/shot in the dark that may or may not be relevant. Right before my race routes appeared, I went into the Fitness app on my iPhone to look at my recent workouts and got a spinning wheel for a couple of seconds before the screen updated. Right after that was when I was able to see race routes on my watch. So perhaps try opening the Fitness app on your iPhone and then touching "Show More" next to Workouts and see if that triggers your race routes somehow.

FYI - several people are discussing this issue over at the macrumors forum. By now I should have at least 3-4 routes but to date still nothing. I'm suspecting that it's an Apple server side issue (maybe a service that is not running?) It seems that no one is getting any of the new routes run for the first time after 9.2 upgrade, then at least twice. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/watchos-9-beta-anyone-try-the-new-running-features.2347459/page-16

I am in the exact same boat..been trying to get it to work ever since I updated my S7 to 9.2. No matter what I do…race route will not show up.

1)Tried a loop course totaling 3miles, twice. No race route.

2)Thought it was a problem with loops so started doing route without any overlaps.. 2mile route, done it four times total..still no race route. I can see all the routes been tracked by Workout on iPhone so it’s recording those gps data but somehow routes just do not show up.

What makes you think that unpairing the watch would help? In my case, it's a totally new watch (AWU). I started to use it on Dec. 3rd. It came preinstalled with WatchOS 9.0 - which got immediately updated to 9.1 upon first installation. I then did several runs with it, some using the native app, some using WorkOutDoors. Since 9.2 (update about 3 weeks ago) I also tried to repeat some of the runs done with the native app as well as new runs "at least twice", all with the native app. All runs starting from my home but none showing up.

Let me know if you have any success with the unpairing...
