Camera auto zooms during video

Hi -

I have an iPhone 13 mini and am having an issue with my camera. I've been attaching the phone to a tripod and recording videos of my golf swing. About half the time, the phone automatically zooms in during my swing, preventing me from seeing the full frame. The video is normal until there is a quick motion on the screen, then it abruptly zooms in for the remainder of the video.

The tripod is not contacting any of the phone's buttons. Any ideas on how to prevent this auto zoom?

thanks!

Hello mwb2022,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. To see if the iPhone can prevent automatically zooming in on your recorded videos, let's verify and test this behavior with having the Lock Camera turned on. This will prevent automatic switching between camera while recording a video. You'll want to go to Settings > Camera > Record Video, then turn on Lock Camera.

In addition, let's ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS 16.0.2. Having the latest version, helps provide software improvements that can help. If needed, here's how to do that:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch wirelessly

1.Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.

2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.

3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

Following these steps may help improve your video recordings.

Best regards.
