iPhone won’t play in car

I have a 2102 Chevy equinox and my phone plays for 6 seconds and then cuts off. The “reading USB” stays on. When I disconnect it and then plug it in again it goes to my radio and I can’t play my music. It’s like it freezes and it keeps going to the radio. Even when I unplug the usb it still says “reading usb”.
