maps in macOS Catalina displays country names in local language such as Arabic Just opened Maps to look at Africa on my iMac and the countries names such a Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia etc are in Arabic (which I can't read) - other labels in countries such as Russia are also in their own language - in Maps in iOS13 they are all the english names.

Apple Maps turn by turn directions aren’t in English. On my wife’s iPhone 11 the maps turn by turn directions are in a foreign language. How do I change to English?

Sorry, I have no idea why that language suddenly appeared in Maps running in English in Australia...

As a sidenote, for some reason, and although you can run almost any application in a different language by clicking here:

then adding the desired app and language (so, for an absurd example, you could run your system in English, Safari in French and Mail in Italian...), you CANNOT change the language used in Maps in this way - Maps is greyed out, as are a small number of other things...

What are your Language & Region settings?

In what language are you seeing the the labels?

Does the Maps application itself appear in the correct language?

Do you have Location Services activated?

Could you post a screenshot of System Preferences->Lang

& Region? If you click on Apps there, is any app in the list? (Usually, there aren’t any).

Could you post a screenshot of maps showing some of the labels in the wrong language?

the labels are the only ones that is in French I think.

all other items have been checked and are correct

The problem is only on my MacBook Pro m2

Labels when using my iPad have no problems. They are in English. I live in Australia. I believe the language is in French on the labels.
