Ask to Buy Toggle Not an Option

My children are 16 & 17, yet the “Ask to Buy” toggle is not there. I’ve gone through every setting I can in Screen Time and iCloud and can’t figure out how to turn this off.

Screentime and Downloading free apps without a password I have screen time on my teen's phone to control just a few things. I would like her to be able to download free apps without having to enter her appleID password (which she doesn't know). I have enabled "approve purchases" for her downloads. I have disabled "require a password" for in-app purchases on Screentime. I've temporarily turned off screen time and/or set it to allow account changes, so that she can go into Settings (Media & Purchases, Password Settings) on her phone and toggle off "Require Password" for free downloads. As soon as I enable screen time so that she can't make Account Changes, the Media & Purchases, Password Settings automatically toggles back to "require password" and is muted so that she can't change it. Any thoughts on how to fix this? All I want to do it "approve purchases" but I'm not willing to turn off Screentime permanently.

BUG: Screentime Content Restriction App Age forces child to enter password 3 times If you enable Screentime and set an age for Apps under Screentime > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions, then every time the child wants to install the app it asks for the password 3 times (once to get, once to buy (even if free), then after approval, a third time to install. The Accounts->Media & Passwords->Password settings screen becomes greyed out and the slider for not asking for password for free downloads is forced to always ask. Even worse, it asks for a password every time you want to update an app too. So every time my child's apps broke because they needed an update, I was having to enter their password. If you need to update 30 apps, you have to enter the password 30 times! After fighting for this for over a year with my child using his iPad less than he would have if not for this inconvenience, I finally found the workaround of disabling the age restriction on apps. As I have the Ask to Buy family sharing setting enabled, I still have to approve the app on my side which is exactly how I want things. However, it still feels less safe not having the age restriction parental setting enabled. Please fix this bug! I am sure this bug is a nightmare for many other parents.

Sometimes it helps to have the devices involved take a fresh look at settings:

- Try signing out of accounts and back in again.

- Restarting is a simple step that can resolve many unexpected behaviors.

If a problem persists, particularly over several days, try contacting Apple for assistance:

If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.
