macbook unable to connect to iphone 13

I have a macbook air 11" mid 2014 (macoS catalina 10.15.7) and it does not seem to be able to connect to my iphone 13 (ios 16). When i use Finder on my macbook the iphone shows up for a few seconds and then disconnects.

When i connect my iphone using the same usb cable to another macbookair 13"(macos catalina 10.15.7) the is no problem connecting and i can backup my iphone to the macbook,

I would appreciate it if someone could help me resolve this issue. Thanks.

Hi jbp1987,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

It sounds like you have followed most of the basic steps in this article but double-check: If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Then check the Mac specific steps.

"Additional steps for Mac

  1. Connect your iOS or iPadOS device and make sure that it's unlocked and on the Home screen.
  2. On your Mac, choose Finder > Preferences from the Finder menu bar, then click Sidebar at the top of the preferences window. Make sure that "CDs, DVDs and iOS Devices" is checked.
  3. Press and hold the Option key, then choose System Information from the Apple menu . From the list on the left, select USB.
  4. If you see your iPhone, iPad, or iPod under USB Device Tree, get the latest macOS or install the latest updates. If you don't see your device or still need help, contact Apple Support."

You may also need to look out for a minor software update as described here: If you see "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

"If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch has a newer version of iOS than is supported by your Mac, you may see this alert: "A software update is required to connect to your iOS device. Would you like to download and install this update now?"

Click Install to download and install the software so your Mac can update or sync your iOS device. If you continue to see this alert, make sure that your software on your Mac and iTunes are up-to-date."

Have a fantastic day!
