How to open project files created in FCE (4.0.1) in FCP (10.6.4)

My Mac HD shows FCE with a white crosshatch circle, and note 'not compatible w HighSierra and to upgrade to latest version'. I don't see solution on the App store.

So you're suggesting that I need to have an older OS ver running on an older Mac to open FCE?

Yes, that is correct.

FCExpress is a 32 bit app. That's what the circle with a slash means.

Just for kicks I went down memory lane.

I have an FCExpress disc and older Mac and OS available and FCExpress loaded as normal on the old Mac running 10.8.5 Mountain Lion.

Using a newer Mac running OS 12.6 Monterey...👎

Here's some screen shots of the failure:

The movie files you can probably recover. It is the actual FCE projects that will be harder.

It is quite possible that the movie files will work straight away. In the worst case, you may just need temporary access to a mac running Mojave (not so old…), and convert using the Finder, or Quicktime Player (no extra software needed).

It is EDITING your old projects that would require a lot more effort (a mac running at most Sierra, and a copy of FCE; or legacy FCP 7).

Thanks for that, altho its meaningless to me. I adopted to new tech quickly, ditching old mac computers and software as new came along, never realizing I might have to go BACK rather than always forward. Correction: I did save some equipment for nostalgia paper weights but ditched the OS discs along the way. I regret that, especially since the movie files I'm seeking are in my head but nowhere else.
