iPhone issues with dual SIM

I recently changed carriers and have a physical sim and an esim now. But now I cannot send text message with androids. SMS is turned on. Can I delete the esim, or remove the physical sim so I do not have dual sim anymore? Will my phone work correctly with only 1 sim?
