Is there an option to change the media and ringtone / message alert volumes independently , because every time I change the media volume then my ringtone volume also changes

Settings>Sounds & Haptics There's a slider to select the volume you like for ringtones and alerts, with a switch you can toggle to prevent/allow the volume to be changed by the volume buttons. Toggle it to the off position.
