There's nothing to connect. Airdrop just works by sending the item.

Please follow the steps in the support document you posted from carefully.,

You do not need to pair the devices over bluetooth at all.

How to use AirDrop

  1. Open an app, then tap Share or the Share button . If you share a photo from the Photos app, you can swipe left or right and select multiple photos.
  2. Tap the AirDrop button.
  3. Tap the AirDrop user that you want to share with. Or you can use AirDrop between your own Apple devices. If you see a red numbered badge on the AirDrop button, there are multiple devices nearby that you can share with. Tap the AirDrop button, then tap the user that you want to share with. Learn what to do if you don't see the AirDrop user or your other device.

Supported in what way?

What are you trying to do?

what model of iPad are you dealing with exactly?

AirDrop is supported across a wide range of devices.

Do note they won't directly pair over bluetooth if that is what you are referring to, but most things do not require bluetooth pairing, just for bluetooth to be tuned on. Airdrop does not require direct bluetooth pairing.

If you explain in as much detail as possible what issue you are having, someone may be able to help you out.
