mail app stuck indexing since updating to iOS 16

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

To fix Mail indexing, if you haven't done so already, restart your iPhone. Next, disable and re-enable search settings to make sure the indexing is working correctly. To do so, go to Settings > Mail > Siri & Search.

Disable any settings currently enabled, restart your iPhone, and turn the settings back on.

Was the Mail app closed prior to restarting your iPhone? Closing the app can resolved many unexpected issues we may encounter.

To close an app:

1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen pausing in the middle
2. Swipe lift or right to locate the Mail app preview
3. Swipe up on the Mail app preview to close it out

You can also confirm that the latest version of iOS 16 is currently installed. The latest version if currently iOS 16.0.2. To install any available update go to Settings > General > Software Updates.
